Hi, my name is David. I was born in 1996, and I first got introduced to competitive Magic in 2015. I showed up to a Modern FNM with a couple friends, cheap sleeves, and a Polymorph Emrakul home-brew. I proceeded to get demolished by seasoned Constructed players. At that FNM, however, I overheard a few people talking about big tournaments that you could travel to. It piqued my interest- I started doing research- and that is when I discovered the Pro Tour. Since that day in small town Vermont, when I was wrapping up my final semester of high school, I have been awestruck with the dream of playing Magic at the professional level.
In the Fall of that year, I started my first term at Bowdoin College, and my engagement with Magic would ebb and flow for the next 8 years. I played in Grand Prix Montreal in 2016- a Shadows Over Innistrad / Eldritch Moon Limited tournament- but that was my only big tournament until 2023. Then everything changed. I decided to put a pause on my career in tech, commit more time than ever to competitive Magic, and start a journey towards the Pro Tour. I am documenting as much as I can because I believe there is a tender human element to high-level Magic that is often overlooked. I hope you will join me on this Road to the Pro Tour.
